The State Congress has directed its elected representatives, including ministers, MLAs, MLCs, heads of various boards and corporations, to raise funds for the construction of the proposed Congress Bhavan off Queen’s Road in Bengaluru.
Sources said State Congress president G Parameshwara had written to the leaders to take an initiative in this regard. The party legislators, both MLAs and MLCs, have decided to donate Rs 1 lakh each for the purpose, though no specific amount was fixed by the party, sources said.
The Bhavan, the foundation stone for which was laid by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah recently, is estimated to cost Rs 12 crore. The construction is likely to begin in about a week’s time. The building will have ground plus three floors, with an auditorium having a capacity to seat 1,300 people.
