Kejriwal gets Z-plus security

Hours after the Aam Aadmi Party won the Assembly elections, the security of the party’s Chief Ministerial candidate, Arvind Kejriwal, was upgraded to the Z-plus category.

However, till the time he shifts to Delhi, Delhi Police will also seek security cover from Uttar Pradesh Police as Kejriwal lives at Kaushambi in Ghaziabad.  “The Z-plus category security has been given to Kejriwal from Tuesday. He was being given the Z category security until Tuesday, when it was upgraded to the Z-plus category,” Special Commissioner of Police (Security) S B K Singh told Deccan Herald.

The Z-plus security consists of 44 police personnel of the Delhi Police’s security wing. It also consists of escort and pilot vehicles. It is the highest category of security and will always remain with the AAP chief.

During his previous tenure, Kejriwal had refused the security offered to him by Delhi Police. He had told police that god would protect him. But Delhi Police were providing him the Z category security cover, which consists of more than 20 police personnel, including a PSO.

“Kejriwal was still given the Z category security when he demitted his post as the chief minister,” said police sources.
