Police to declare CBD hypersensitive, moot 24/7 safety

The City police have mooted a special scheme to ensure round-the-clock safety in the Central Business District (CBD).

Police are all set to declare CBD as a hypersensitive and secure zone on the lines of CBD in New Delhi.

“The overall development of CBD will be taken up by utilising funds sanctioned by the State and the Central governments for Bengaluru City. A sum of Rs 83 crore has been released under the Mega City scheme for the development of Bengaluru. These funds will be used to purchase about 3,000 Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) cameras that will be installed across the area. The tender process to procure the CCTV cameras is on,” M N Reddi, City Police Commissioner, told reporters here on Tuesday.

All the 3,000 CCTV cameras will be connected to a control room from where the police will monitor the movement of men, material and motor vehicles, round-the-clock.

The police are assembling a team of 300 men belonging to the Karnataka State Industrial Security Force (KSISF) to handle any eventualities in the CBD, Reddi said. The KSISF men will guard the CBD in three shifts to ensure that the entire area is safe.

Police will soon purchase 160 bikes and 80 jeeps and each jeep will have an armed constable and two KSISF personnel to guard the area, Reddi informed.

File plaint on social media

Police are also planning to utilise the social media as a platform to lodge complaints. A team of officers is being trained in Delhi to set up a social media cell to track criminal and terror activities across the City.

The police will start receiving complaints through social media such as WhatsApp, Twitter, Facebook and others, once the social media cell becomes functional, Reddi added.
