A discovery of the past

Last Updated 12 February 2015, 13:52 IST

Parichay’, a heritage walk, will be organised on February 15 by 25 enthusiasts who will stroll down the rickety Avenue Road to discover its beautiful past.

The stroll will take place from State Bank of Mysore, KG Road to Tipu’s Palace in Chamarajpet, covering the fort. It will begin early in the morning and cover a distance of 2 km.

Avenue Road, one of the oldest roads in the City and often considered as the City’s lifeline for its business and trading activities, has a history to it. Always bustling, the historicity of the place is often forgotten amidst the activity and the walk is a nostalgic trip to the past to remind people of Avenue Road’s prestige.

Organised by INTACH, the Bengaluru chapter, the walk aims to familiarise citizens with historical monuments and heritage sites, such as Rice Memorial Church, Rangaswamy Temple and Maramma Temple that have survived over time.

It will highlight the importance of heritage sites, when and where they were built and how they should be preserved for tourists. The walk was organised in other areas such as Shivajinagar and Fraser Town.
