The B.Pac (Bangalore Political Action Committee) on Thursday suggested to the expert committee on restructuring the BBMP, that the civic body be split into five different corporations with each headed by separate mayors.

The five corporations recommended by the B.Pac are Bengaluru Central (erstwhile BMP), North (Yelahanka & Dasarahalli), South (Bommanahalli), East (Mahadevapura) and West (RR Nagar) with Core Bengaluru (erstwhile BMP) to be retained as Bengaluru Central.

Mohandas Pai, Vice President, B.Pac, said: “Bengaluru has the potential to grow in the peripheral areas and each corporation could generate its own revenue. We suggested the expert committee to facilitate a logical restructuring looking at the projected data and scope for future expansion.”

B.Pac also proposed separate police commissioners to be appointed for each corporation for five years based on competence and familiarity with urban issues. Apart from elected corporators, it was suggested that each city corporation council to also include eminent citizens and domain experts through nominations.

Further, the creation of a body called the Bengaluru Infrastructure Development Corporation (BIDC) to replace the BDA was also recommended.
