According to police, Dhananjay and his friends came to the house of Eshwaramma (75), his grandmother, on February 3. Dhananjay asked her for money to buy liquor which she refused. Around 1.45 am, the suspects noticed the woman sleeping in the kitchen.

Dhananjay stamped on her throat and killed her. He took away the gold chain and fled the spot. The incident came to light the next morning and the neighbours informed the police.

After gathering information from the neighbours, the police picked up Dhananjaya from Chittoor. During questioning, he confessed to the crime and disclosed the names of his accomplices, a senior police officer said. He added that Dhananjay was addicted to liquor and had come to his grandmother’s house to loot valuables and cash.
