The first session of the Delhi Assembly will be a two-day affair starting February 23 and focus on the election of a new Speaker and Deputy Speaker.

The Arvind Kejriwal cabinet took the decision on Monday afternoon to recommend the House session from February 23 for the swearing-in of the new legislators and election of a new Speaker and Deputy Speaker.

Before the cabinet meeting, Chief Minister Kejriwal tweeted about the improvement in his health.

“Fever gone.Feeling much better. Restarted daily morn walk n yoga, which had stopped due to elections. My 1st day in office 2day. Do pray 4 me,” Kejriwal tweeted.

Kejriwal had skipped office work on the day he took oath on February 14. While taking the oath of office, he also mentioned in his speech at the Ramlila Maidan than he had come to the venue after taking medicine for fever.

Soon after Kejriwal came to office on Monday, Delhi Police Commissioner B S Bassi met him at the Secretariat around 11.45 am.

Sources said the decision to hold just a two-day House session, instead of the usual four-day inaugural session, is aimed at organising a training session for the first-time legislators, before getting down to transaction of business.

A total of 46 of the 67 AAP legislators and two out of the three BJP legislators have entered the Assembly for the first time.

In the absence of any formal training in parliamentary traditions, House working, conventions and etiquette, the government is keen to expose the first-time legislators to the nuances through a crash course, said a source in the AAP.

Soon after his election, the new Speaker is expected to formally issue the directions for orientation workshop for the first-time legislators.
