Pro Chancellor of Manipal University Dr H S Ballal and CEO of Manipal Health System Rajen Padukone were the guests of honour on the occasion. Dean of Kasturba Medical College Maj Gen (Retd) Dr G Rajagopal, COO & MS KMC Hospital Dr Sunil Despande and Blood Bank Officer Dr Purnima Rao were present . According to a release, the 24 hour blood bank has 4 blood storage refrigerators which have a storage capacity of over 1,500 units of blood.
KMC Hospital Blood Bank is the first blood bank in Mangalore recognised as a Zonal blood testing centre for HIV by the Director General of Health Services and the State AIDS Prevention Society. It is also the first blood bank to use state of the art Gel Technology for cross matching thereby improving the patients’ safety in transfusion practice.
