Following the death of a three-year-old leopard on Nice Road on Tuesday, the State forest department urged Nice to take more preventive measures.

Speaking to Deccan Herald on Thursday, Bangalore Urban deputy conservator of forests H R Kumar said though the postmortem report was awaited, it had been confirmed that the leopard was killed by a speeding heavy-duty vehicle as the animal had severe head and spine injuries. “The vehicle has not yet been identified and we are also aware that this is not the first such case. Thus, we are now requesting the Nice to take more preventive measures to reduce such untoward incidents,” he said and added, “We are telling them to put rumble strips on the road so that speed on the Kanakapura stretch is reduced, where three leopard deaths have occurred in the past. This stretch is also vulnerable as it is a part of the Kanakapura reserve forest patch. We are also telling them to put more signboards and have more lights.”

There are two signboards on both sides of the road near Puravankara Apartments, but that is not enough. It is important to reduce the speed and we need more speed-breakers. These precautions will be sent to them, but if nothing works, a detailed meeting will be held,” he said.
