Fresh catch from the backwaters

'Kuttanad festival'

Ente Keralam, the fine-dine Kerala restaurant is once again hosting the ‘Kuttanad Food Festival’ till March 8 at its restaurant at Ulsoor Road.

The one-of-a-kind festival will feature the exquisite cuisine of the Kuttanadan region in Kerala’s Alappuzha district.

Kuttanad is a renowned region known for its picturesque paddy fields and is one of the few places in the world where farming is carried out below sea level.  The place is also known for its unique cuisine featuring some of the best fresh water fish from the Vembanad Lake. 

‘Kuttanadan Tharavu’ (duck grown in waters of the lake) is famous among all the eateries. Fresh catch is traditionally cooked using time-honoured recipes and ingredients in earthenware, which gives a special flavour to the dishes.

Ente Keralam will showcase different speciality dishes recreated to reflect the Kuttanad region’s cuisine which includes ‘Karimeen Pollichathu’ (Pearl spot fish from Alleppey wrapped in banana leaf and grilled), ‘Kuttanadan Kalanji Curry’ (Kuttanadan style preparation of the fish called Kalanji), ‘Kuttanadan Tharavu Mappas’ (Duck from Kuttanad cooked in a mappas gravy-onions, coconut and spices), ‘Konju Pollichathu’ (grade prawns wrapped in banana leaf and grilled) to name a few.

Ente Keralam is also features delicious curries like ‘Chemballi Pacha Kurumulagittathu’ (Chemballi, a local fish of Kuttanad cooked in a ground green peppercorn and garlic paste), ‘Aattu Vaala Thenga Varutharacha Curry’ (fish-Vaala cooked in roasted ground coconut gravy) and many more.

These dishes are cooked in earthenware which gives them the special flavour. Ente Keralam is located at 12/1, Ulsoor Road, Ulsoor, Bengaluru. Reservations for the Festival can be made at 3221 7201. The restaurant timing is from 12 pm to 3.30 pm and 7 pm to 11 pm.
