A family feud turned violent when a 47-year-old man was stabbed in full public view by five men on the busy Nandidurga Road on Saturday morning.

The police identified the victim as Iliyas Shariff, a resident of Miller’s Road and younger brother of Yousuf Shariff, managing director of Umrah Developers.

The incident occurred around 11.30 am when Iliyas parked his car and alighted from it. Five persons came in a car and stopped in front of him, stabbed him twice in the abdomen and fled. Iliyas collapsed on the ground and passersby rushed him Bowring Hospital, where doctors said he was out of danger, the police said.

The police, who visited the hospital, recorded the statement of the victim who said the attackers were the relatives of Yousuf’s wife Ruksana. The act was a revenge against Yousuf as the couple were not on good terms and they were staying separately. They stabbed Iliyas and warned him to convey the message to Yousuf that it was just the beginning and bigger attacks were on their way, the police added.

A senior police officer said, “The complainant has identified the accused and their names cannot be disclosed in the interest of investigation. A family problem has led to the attack. The police are already making efforts to trace the suspects. The victim and his family members are claiming that it is the handiwork of Yousuf's wife and her relatives.”

Domestic violence

The family members claimed that Ruksana had filed a case of domestic violence against Yousuf seeking a compensation of Rs 200 crore and a monthly maintenance charge of Rs 20 lakh. The case is pending before the Fourth Metropolitan Magistrate Traffic Court.

She is aware that her husband is into land development and has huge money and her aim is to get money from him, they claimed.

Yousuf said, “This the fifth such attack. Earlier, four attacks have been carried out on my employees at the construction sites and lands. Four cases   have been registered respectively in Yelahanka New Town, Madanayakanahalli, T Narasipura and in Robertsonpet police station in Kolar Gold Fields. They are threatening us to part away with the money and also several members of our family are being threatened by numerous people.” A case of assault has been registered in J C Nagar police station in this connection.
