A haven called home

Recently, I was watching a Hindi track on TV, “Yeh mera ghar... yeh ghar bahut haseen hain…” from an old flick, “Saath Saath”. This got me thinking as to why, since time immemorial, the cozy comforts of being in the confines of one’s own home, has been eulogised, to an extravagant extent, by folks all around the globe.

Apparently, a home is a place, proffering you plenty of freedom, to do what you please, without caring two penny about your physical appearance or propriety of proper conduct. No constant flashing of those plastic smiles or frequent putting on of those facades.
These perks apart, there are other freedoms too. You can noisily scrunch the munchies, hurling table etiquettes to winds. Yes, you can merrily use hands while tucking down food, with-out battling it out with forks or knives. While you are at it, you can even indulge in ungainly acts of teeth-picking or nose-digging!

You can loudly sip soft drinks, slurp soups, ungracefully yawn, cough, sneeze, hawk, retch, fart, burp, blow nose, spit out in washbasins, puke, sans feelings of embarrassment! Standing before the mirror, you can monkey around too, with funny facial contortions. To encapsulate, you can be your own ‘true self’.

At home, there is none to monitor or marshal your ways or moves, unlike at your workplace where you have a snooty senior, to whose whims and fancies you have to willy-nilly pander. You are safely away from that slothful junior too, who keeps skiving his work, and shuffling it off on you! Even if you are the linchpin of a MNC, working in a work-conducive opulent ambience with plush interiors, still, after those grueling grinding hours, there is nothing like zipping back to your den, even if your abode is a solitary-room (or even a roomless) apartment.

And, say, you are the one, wallowing in sybaritic lifestyle, ever zooming around in snazzy-jazzy cars. Or, you are someone, who is a globe-trotting fiend, ever shuttling around, swooning over splendiferous scenic beauty of snow-shrouded mountains and stunning sun-kissed beaches, taking selfies against splendid locales. Nevertheless, nothing like bounding back to your dwelling, your cozy turf, to let your hair down in that comfy home warmth.

Now, you may even be a hard-core cineaste, often watching many films at multiplexes. Or, a food cognoscente too, ever enjoying ambrosial cuisines in ritzy hotels. You may also be that uber-gregarious, true-blue fashionista, revelling in fun-filled bashes, decked up in the trendiest apparels. But sure, nothing like the ineffable joy of dashing home, popping on a house-dress, unwinding on your bed, with your back propped against a soft pillow, to get that supreme laidback feeling!

Well, now, isn’t there that irrefutable truth in the saying, “Amid pleasures and palaces one might roam, but nothing to beat the bliss of being in one’s own home, sweet home?” Cold wars with other home-inmates notwithstanding!
