Cong mum over Rahul's whereabouts

Last Updated 26 February 2015, 04:06 IST

As pictures of Rahul Gandhi camping in Uttarakhand made rounds in Twitter, Congress on Wednesday remained tight-lipped about the whereabouts of the party vice-president.

The party said the heir apparent needed time to reflect and introspect on the way forward amid heated discussions in the social media about Gandhi’s leave of absence.

Jagdish Sharma, a known Gandhi family loyalist, tweeted pictures of the family scion in a campsite in the Himalayas claiming that Rahul is somewhere in Uttarakhand.  However, Congress was quick to disown Sharma’s revelations pointing out that he is not a member of the party.

“He is neither with the Congress nor an aide of the Gandhi family,” AICC spokesperson P C Chacko said.  Party sources said the photos Sharma made public were clicked during the 44-year-old leader’s visit to Uttarakhand in 2008.

Tiwari lambasts Rahul

BJP MP Manoj Tiwari on Wednesday criticised Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi’s decision to take a “break” from politics. “Rahul is a bachelor...let him enjoy Bangkok and Pattaya (cities in Thailand),”  Tiwari remarked on the sidelines of a function in Varanasi.

“He has a right to enjoy...why are you (mediapersons) worried,” he said sarcastically.

BJP workers have put out banners in Allahabad town declaring reward to whosoever reveals the whereabouts of Rahul. “Congress’ commander Rahul Gandhi has gone missing...anyone who reveals his current location will be handsomely rewarded,” said the posters, one of which was put up on the walls of Anand Bhavan, the ancestral home of the Gandhis.
