Mumbai all-rounder Abhishek Nayar suffered a head injury on Wednesday while trying to effect a run-out in his follow through.

Nayar was trying to run out Karnataka skipper R Vinay Kumar, who backed up a bit too far with Karun Nair on strike. But Nayar fell awkwardly on his back and hit his head on the ground while attempting to pick the ball and have a throw at the stumps at non-striker’s end.

Nayar received immediate on-field treatment from Mumbai team support staff, and was able to complete his over. However, he soon left the field and was rushed to the hospital.

He has been admitted to Hosmat and has been kept under observation for a night.“The player was admitted to our hospital this afternoon after complaining of headache and vomiting. He has a concussive head injury. The brain and cervical scans are normal, so there is nothing to worry. He is in the ICU for a 24-hour observation,” said Ajit Benedict Ryan, Vice-President of Hosmat.

Mumbai skipper Aditya Tare said. “Abhishek is fine now. He has been kept under observation for a night. But as of now, the doctors say he is okay. The reports are clear,” said Tare in his post-day press do. Nayar didn’t bat in Mumbai’s first innings.
