Murder bid: Ex-corporator held, sent to JC

Udaygiri police have arrested a former corporator, who had allegedly attempted to murder his successor, during the inspection at Rajivnagar in the city, on Monday.

Following a complaint from Corporator of Ward No 53 Fairoz Khan, the police arrested former corporator Anwar Baig alias Afab from his house at Rajivnagar on Monday night.

He was produced before the judge at the latter’s house late in the night, who remanded him to judicial custody. Anwar’s brother Ahmed Baig alias Sarkar, a co-accused in the case remains at large.

Khan, along with MCC officials had gone on ward inspection, when he was attacked by Anwar, who  is a rowdy-sheeter earlier booked for opening fire on a person, before going at large for a couple of days. Later, he was acquitted of the charge.
