Orientation programmes for doctors treating H1N1 patients: Khader

Orientation programmes will be organised for doctors treating H1N1 patients soon, Health Minister U T Khader said on Tuesday.

Speaking to reporters in Bengaluru, Khader said doctors were practicing different methodologies and approach with regards to treating patients with H1N1 symptoms. In some cases, there was a delay in the treatment. In a bid to orient the doctors, training programmes will be organised at various hospitals in Bengaluru in a day or two, the minister said.

All the deputy commissioners have been directed to hold regular review meetings on H1N1 cases in their respective jurisdictions, Khader said and added that H1N1 deaths had touched 62 in the State, this year.

So far, as many as 1,884 H1N1 cases had been confirmed, 43 were in the ICU and 1,183 had recovered, he said.

Replying to queries, Khader said banning the Popular Front of India (PFI) was not the solution. The organisation has been blamed for the communal clashes that broke out in Shivamogga last month, he said.

2 in State die of H1N1
A pregnant woman from Handigund village in Raibag taluk, Belagavi district, affected with H1N1 (swine flu) died at a private hospital here on Monday.

According to District Surveillance Officer Jagadish Nuchhin, Pratibha Vishwanath Mirji (21), was eight months pregnant and had been to her maternal home at Biradi village in Raibag.
She was admitted at a private hospital on March 4, after she complained of cough. Swab samples sent for tests confirmed that she was affected with H1N1.

Dr Nuchhin said from March 5 to 7, swab samples of eight persons were sent for tests and three had tested positive. While two of them are recovering, one has succumbed. So far, four persons in the district have died of H1N1.

Bhavyasri Raju (23) of Adki village in Sedam taluk, Kalaburagi district, succumbed to H1N1 at a private hospital in Hyderabad on Tuesday.

A teacher at Vidya Mandir School in Sedam, she was down with fever and was admitted to Basaveshwar Teaching and General Hospital in Kalaburagi. She was shifted to Apollo Hospital in Hyderabad for additional treatment, where she died, reports reaching here, said.
With this, the number of persons falling prey to the disease has risen to six in the district.
