<p>Development Minister Gopal Rai held a public meeting to assess the situation of rising vegetable prices on Wednesday where hundreds of people complained about hoarding and profiteering by retailers.<br /><br /></p>.<p>The session was held at Azadpur Mandi in north Delhi.<br /><br />Prices of most vegetables showed a spike in past fortnight after the unexpected rains <br />in Delhi and neighbouring states. <br /><br />Some vegetables become costlier by at least 20 to 50 per cent. Popular winter vegetables like peas, cabbage and cauliflower also started pinching the common man.<br /><br />Rai assured the people about the measures being taken to check the prices and said a new system of eliminating agents will be put in place to ensure that the farmers directly sell their produce.<br /><br />The new system will also help bring down the prices of vegetables, said the minister.<br /></p>
