Based on the CCTV footage obtained from a pub in Hennur, the City police on Thursday arrested nine men in connection with the attack on Africans on Monday night.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (North-East) Vikash Kumar Vikash said Vinay, Ramesh Kumar, Kiran, Joseph, Dayananda, James, Lourds, Bala Kumar and Bhanu Prakash had been booked under the IPC Sections 143 (unlawful assembly) 147 (rioting), 341 (wrongful restraint), 504 (intentional insult) and 506 (intentional insult).

The police are interrogating them to ascertain details.

“There are a few others involved in the incident and we will arrest them soon,” Vikash told Deccan Herald.

The arrests were made based on the CCTV footage secured from Century Pub and Bar in Hennur.

Reconstructing the incidents that took place on Monday night, the police said an African was found speeding his motorbike in Byrathi Layout by a local resident.

He objected to it and the two had heated arguments. Soon after the African left, the local youth phoned his friends and asked them come to the spot, said the police.

They all gathered at Byrathi Layout waiting for a few Africans to turn up there. Minutes later, they noticed four people travelling by a car. They accosted them and the four came out of the car.

As the youth started attacking them, the four rushed for cover. But the youth chased them down and attacked them, the police added.

One of them rushed inside a hospital on Hennur Main Road, but the suspects too barged in. The African escaped from there and ran inside Century Pub and Bar.

The suspects chased him and attacked him inside the bar, the police said.
