Samajwadi Party MP Naresh Agarwal on Tuesday announced that he was giving up the village he adopted under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Saansad Aadarsh Gram Yojana (SAGY) in protest against the government’s failure to frame guidelines and provide funds.
Agarwal, the Rajya Sabha MP, had adopted Behta Sadhai village in the Hardoi district of Uttar Pradesh under SAGY.
Raising the issue in the Rajya Sabha during Zero Hour, Agarwal said villagers are now asking questions as to where their children would get milk and clothes, as they believe these things would be taken care of under the scheme that was implemented on the prime minister’s initiative. Also, he said, MPs are facing the ire of people of other villages which have not been adopted.
