The much awaited annual art exhibition by College of Art was held at the campus in Tilak Marg. The exhibition was the 62nd edition of the college and was attended by Lieutenant Governor, Najeeb Jung. The exhibition by the College of Art has quite a legacy and is attended by art lovers across the country.

The college which has produced thousands of artists over the years carried on with its legacy this year as well with one of its students selling the highest number of paintings at this exhibition. Moreover, the fact that artwork by students is much sought after tells quite a lot about the kind of work the college has produced over the years.

Grishma Khodaria, a student from MFA Painting was the one whose works was
purchased by art lovers visiting the exhibition. She believes that the sales at the exhibition clearly shows the interest of art collectors in young talent.

“I love it when people like my paintings so much that they wish to buy it by paying a value of money in return. It is a kind of respect which I get from people. It’s like sharing the joy of my work with other people. The value of happiness, joy and love
spread through paintings in people’s lives is priceless,” said Khodaria.

When asked about her work Khodaria responded that she doesn’t see her paintings as ‘work’ but an ‘expression which explores the ideas behind joy and happiness’.

“My pieces explore neuroaesthetical qualities of a painting, along with which I also explore the qualities inherent in paint and strive to put them to good use by loading up a big brush and stroking it across the canvas. The process takes me beyond the mind and makes me experience the essential nature -- which is described as peace, happiness and bliss. Which is about how to be still and examine what is within us,”  Khodaria told Metrolife.

When asked about her career she replied, “Where I stand today, is the place which has always educated me with a new idea each day. It has helped me knowing what art is and the need to paint, which has enlightened me with the knowledge of the divine being and the spiritual connect with the paintings.”

The exhibition according to other students is more like a manifestation of what they learn in the college. Khodaria while talking to Metrolife also spoke about the culture of learning that is practised in the college and that the paintings at the exhibition is a proof of how the faculty at the college push the students to achieve their best.
