Man gets 10-yr RI for raping daughter

Additional Sessions Judge Sanjeev Aggarwal came to the rescue of the 13-year-old girl, noting that her mother had already expired, and that there was no one from the family coming forward to accept her.

“The court cannot sit as a mute spectator in such cases, where not only a minor girl has been ravished, but at the same time the entire conscience of  society has been shaken.”

It asked the DCW to come up with a constructive rehabilitation plan for the welfare of the girl by providing her proper educational and vocational skills so that she could be self-reliant. The convict, Sanjay Yadav, had been in judicial custody since November 27, 2005, following his arrest by the Sultanpuri police. The court also imposed a fine of Rs 5,000 on him.

It refused to grant any leniency to the convict on the ground that he had already been in custody for four years, and that there was no one to look after his mentally-challenged second wife. “The convict has committed the most gory act of raping his own daughter for whom he was the protector as well as the provider. Such a ghastly act is against all accepted norms of human behaviour and civilised society,” Aggarwal said.
