Elegance on the ramp

Showstopper
Last Updated 19 March 2015, 16:01 IST

Dhanya Ramkumar, the granddaughter of veteran actor Dr Rajkumar, emerged from behind an intricately hand-woven, ivory bridal-veil dressed in a spectacular white gown and dazzling jewels as she walked the ramp as the showstopper for the launch of the ‘Amrapali Jewels Trousseau Week’ recently.

One could hardly say that she was making her debut as she walked the ramp with absolute confidence. The models dressed in white wedding gowns showcased traditional uncut ‘jadau’ jewellery, silver-gold plated necklaces, earrings, cocktail rings that matched well with Western and Indo-Western wear and Victorian jewellery.

The South-Indian Heritage Collection inspired by the temples from South India featured stunning ‘jhumkis’, ‘haras’, ‘vanki’ and studded and structured neckpieces made of gold. The event was presented as a fashion walk-through, and choreographed by Bengaluru’s fashion guru Prasad Bidapa.

“I’m honoured to be associated with a global brand like Amrapali,” said Dhanya. “I’m currently studying media but I do plan to step into the modelling world in future. Debuting in this show has been extremely overwhelming.” She has a pendant of her grandfather, Dr Rajkumar, which is her prized possession.

Dhanya confessed that she loves to dress up. During free time, she tries out various fashion trends and is up-to-date on the fashion front.

“Our collection is traditional yet contemporary. To reflect this combination, Dhanya was the right person to represent the modern women. She is fresh and dynamic and hence we chose Dhanya to be the face of the collection,” said Laxmi Moncourt, Business Head of Amrapali Jewels.
