Foreign student arrested for forgery; illegal stay

A Kenyan national, pursuing higher studies in the city, has been arrested on forgery charge.


According to Saraswatipuram Police, Andrew Mayanga Kazungu, a student of JSS Law College in Kuvempunagar, has been arrested on Tuesday.

The city special branch (CSB) at the police commissioner’s office complex, that deals with foreign nationals related affairs, found Kazungu staying illegally, after expiry of his student visa period. Kazungu had been directed to pay a fine of Rs 13,800 for the illegality. On Monday, Kazungu, who paid a fine of Rs 7,000 against the actual fine amount at the main branch of State Bank of Mysore, had allegedly tampered with the bank challan by re-writing the paid amount as Rs 13,800. He had submitted the forged challan to the CSB, only to be caught later. As Kazungu was staying at a rented accommodation near Sanjeevini Park off Sahukar Channaiah Road, under

Saraswatipuram police station, the jurisdictional police were directed to take action against him.

So, Kazungu was arrested and produced before a court, that remanded him to judicial custody.

Chain snatched

A woman was relieved of her mangalsutra worth Rs 90,000 while asleep, at her house in Gowrishankar Nagar, here, on Wednesday.

The victim has been identified as Nandini, wife of Mallikarjun Swamy, a resident of Gowrishankar Nagar on Mysuru-Nanjangud road.

According to police, an unidentified robber, who sneaked into the first floor house through the main door around 3 am, succeeded in decamping with the mangalsutra weighing 60 grams. Nandini woke up to a sound, only when the intruder was making his way towards the door. Though Nandini raised an alarm, the robber fled. K R Police have registered a case.
