Govt pushing State into debt trap: BJP MLA

Last Updated 27 March 2015, 19:27 IST

The Siddaramaiah government is pushing the State into a debt trap by allocating grants on caste basis, BJP leader C T Ravi said here on Friday.

Participating in a discussion on the budget in the Legislative Assembly, Ravi said the government was leaving people “physically challenged” by gifting grants and making them lazy. The duty of the government should be to develop skills in people to lead a good life in their native places. This would have checked migration from rural to urban areas, he added.

The State has secured Rs 4,690 crore more as its tax share from the Centre compared to last year. But this has been negated by the huge loans it has raised. The loan should have gone for creating assets. Instead, it has gone for the ‘Bhagya’ schemes of the government, he said sardonically.

Ravi said the government had been reporting that it was getting many projects cleared by a high-level committee and creating lakhs of jobs. But the reality is not so. The government has so far not evaluated as to how many jobs have been created after rolling out a red carpet welcome to investors, he said.
