Rajasthan government on Friday announced of constituting a regulatory commission to monitor private universities and check the illegal practice of issuing fake degrees and certificates.

The announcement was made after the uproar in the House over the recent fake degree scam in one of the private universities in Jodhpur.

Higher education minister Kali Charan Saraf accepted that he has received numerous complaints against a dozen of private universities for issuing the fake degrees and certificates to students.

Sarraf assured the House that all these complaints are under government’s scanner.
“I announce to constitute a state regulatory commission to monitor the illegal practices by private universities, if any. In last one year, we have received numerous complaints against many private universities for issuing fake degrees. I have sought an explanation from them and many of them have filed their reply,” said Kali Charan Sarraf, state education minister.

The minister informed the House that so far government has received the complaints against Jodhpur National University (Jodhpur),  Sunrise University (Alwar), Sridhar University (Jhunjhunu), Sindhiya University (Jhunjhunu), Jagdish Prasad Jhabarmal Tebrewal University (Jhunjhunu), Pacific Academy of Higher Education and Research (Udaipur), Bhagwant University (Ajmer),  NIMS University (Jaipur), Madhav University (Sirohi) and OPJS University (Churu).

Earlier, Congress legislator Govind Dotasar raked up the issue of fake degree scam in Jodhpur National University and asked the state government about the action taken against it.

Later several BJP leaders also targeted state government and urged them to deal with the complaints in a strict manner.

Later, Sarraf also informed the House that term of Sodhani Committee, probing the Jodhpur National University’s fake degree scam, has also been extended by two months as the Special Operation Group of Police ( SOG-P) has not finished its investigation.
