Parents allege killed by husband in their absence

A 25-year-old woman was found hanging at her parents’ house in outer Delhi’s Narela on Saturday.

Police are probing into the incident as a case of suicide, but the woman’s family claimed that she may have been murdered by her husband.

Both the families claimed that extramarital affair was the reason behind Pooja’s extreme step. The deceased has been identified as Pooja Gupta, a homemaker.

She was married to 30-year-old Mukesh Garg, who works with a private company in Narela. They got married in 2014, but Pooja had recently shifted to her parents’ house in Anaj Mandi in Narela due to frequent heated arguments between the couple.

On Saturday morning, Pooja’s family members went to a nearby temple for Rama Navami puja. They returned home around 9 am. “The main door of the house was found open and Pooja was found hanging from a ceiling fan in her bedroom,” said a police officer.
She was declared brought dead at Babu Jagjivan Ram Hospital. Police were informed after which a crime and forensic team examined the room.

No suicide note was recovered. “We are not in a position to say if it was a suicide or murder. The post-mortem report will ascertain the cause of her death,” the officer added.
The post-mortem will be conducted on Sunday.

Currently, police have not registered any case in connection with the incident. Since she died within seven years of her marriage, an SDM enquiry has also been initiated.
In their statement, Pooja’s family members told police that she was depressed over Mukesh’s involvement in a physical relationship with another woman.

Compromising situation
It is claimed that Pooja had seen Mukesh in a compromising position with the woman. Mukesh, however, claimed that he suspected Pooja of having an extramarital affair.
Pooja’s family members also suspect that Mukesh came to the house in their absence and killed her. Police are looking into the allegations and have analysed the call data records of Pooja and Mukesh’s mobile phones.
