About 50 parents on Monday, filed a complaint with the Lokayukta against schools and the Department of Public Instructions, stating their children were denied admission under the RTE Act, despite being eligible.

The Lokayukta Justice Y Bhaskar Rao summoned Commissioner Mohammad Mohsin, and directed him to address the issues on merit.

The parents claimed that seats had been denied to their wards on grounds such as overage and filling up of seats reserved under the quota.

“The Lokayukta has asked the Commissioner of Public Instructions to direct BEOs to address the issues immediately. He also directed the commissioner to identify schools for admissions in the neighbourhood and publish the list at the BEO office. Thus, parents will know the school to approach in case the quota is filled up in schools in their ward,” Joint Commissioner Lokayukta  Syed Riyaz said.
