Poll panel begins process to weed out bogus voters

Deputy Commissioner A B Ibrahim has said to cleanse the photo electoral rolls by weeding out bogus/duplicate/shifted voters, Election Commission has started the process to link EPIC with Aadhaar through National Voter's Service Portal.

Briefing reporters, on Tuesday, he said it is not compulsory to link the EPIC with Aadhaar.

The programme is being conducted under the National Electoral Rolls Purification and Authentication programme of the Election Commission of India. The objective is to clean up the nation’s electoral roll and wipe out irregularities and is likely to be completed by July 30.

This will help in identifying unregistered eligible voters and issuance of fresh EPIC for saturation of electoral rolls. It makes shifting of voter from one place to another place easier without creating duplicates.

Mistakes rectified
Additional DC Sadashiv Prabhu said the mistakes in the electoral list upto June 30, 2015 will be rectified through the process. It will also help to delete the names of the deceased persons in the voters list. The purification of the voters list help in improving the polling percentage during the election. The eligible voters names can be included in the voters list.

For linking online, one can visit national voters service portal in eci.gov.in
The people can also dial state call centre 1950 to seek more information on the same. To feed your Aadhaar Number by SMS type— ECILINK and send it to 51969 or 51199.

The people can also fill Form Number 1 with the details on name of the voter, EPIC number, and Aadhaar number and hand it over to the Booth Level Officers, Village Accountant, Panchayat Secretary, Town Municipal Council Chief Officer, Tahsildar, Assistant Commissioner and MCC, to feed the data to the National Voter’s Service Portal, he added.

He said on the direction of Election Commission of India, the district administration can also conduct special camps to link the details.

While linking the data, the name of the individual, sex, date of birth, house number/ flat number, photographs in EPIC and Aadhaar should match.
