Gang producing spurious medicines busted

A gang involved in producing spurious medicines in a Punjab-based illegal factory and supplying them in Delhi has been busted, police said on Thursday.

Three persons have been arrested and several cartons of fake drugs which might have been sold for Rs 50 lakh have been seized from them. 

Police said they have also sealed the factory and seized the machines being used to manufacture these drugs.

Senior officials of the crime branch, which busted the gang, said the arrested persons were veterans in the field of spurious drug manufacture and had been arrested earlier too for the same offence.

The suspects were nabbed following a tip-off that one person involved in sale, supply and purchase of spurious drugs was living in Paharganj.

“While developing the information, we learnt that the suspect Manoj had stocked fake medicines at a godown in Multani in Paharganj. Upon confirmation, the information was shared with officers of drug enforcement department,” said police on Thursday.

A joint raid by the two institutions was conducted and Manoj was apprehended with spurious medicines at the godown, said police.

“Interrogation of Manoj helped us identify his accomplices and the illegal factory in Mohali. A raid was conducted at the factory and the two other suspects were also arrested,” said police.

“One strip packing machine used to pack the capsules and tablets and 12 cartons of different drugs were recovered from the factory,” police added.

The other two accused have been identified as Amit Dua and Gulab Singh. Dua, whose father runs a medicine shop, is alleged to be the mastermind of the entire racket.

Dua’s father also owned a factory namely Dua Pharmaceuticals at Bahadur Garh, Haryana. 

Due to family dispute, the factory was disposed off. Amit shifted to Lucknow in 2003 and started the spurious drugs business. 

Two years later, he along with Manoj and one other person were arrested for selling spurious drugs.
