Govt to act tough on naxalites: George

Home Minister K J George on Wednesday said the government would take tough action against those who indulge in naxal activities in the State.

Speaking to reporters after interacting with the party workers at KPCC office, the Home minister said, “The anti-naxal force has recently come across a handout supporting naxal activities near Sringeri. Directions have been issued to the anti-naxal force to deal with those involving in naxal activities sternly. The police officers have been instructed to keep a watch on naxalites coming from other States, he added.

The government has already announced a special package for the rehabilitation of naxalites who come forward to surrender. Number of people have already expressed their wish to surrender, and the government will extend them all the facilities as per the package. Naxal activities has been under control in the State, he said.

As many as 22,000 posts of police constables were lying vacant in the State. Steps have been taken to recruit about 8,500 constables, this year. Remaining posts will be filled in coming days after obtaining permission from Chief Minister Siddaramaiah. Besides, the government has taken a decision to transfer all inspectors and sub-inspectors who have served in executive posts in Bengaluru for at least five years to non-executive posts outside Bengaluru, he added.

Asked about a proposal to conduct performance evaluation of the ministers, the Home minister said he has no problem with the evaluation if the high command decides so. “I am satisfied with my performance. But I have a lot more to offer as the Home minister. One cannot do everything in the short span of two years,” he stated.
