With speculations rife that Assembly polls in Tamil Nadu will be advanced, the DMK and the DMDK have begun exploratory talks with possible allies.
DMDK leader Vijayakanth kicked-started the process by meeting a host of leaders including DMK president M Karunanidhi and leaders of the Congress, BJP and VCK, in a sign that the state would probably see political realignment before the polls. The DMDK cast its lot with the BJP-led NDA during the 2014 Lok Sabha polls that comprised of the MDMK and the Ramadoss-led PMK, with whom it had serious differences in seat sharing.
Congress leader EVKS Elangovan similarly met DMK leader M K Stalin on Friday. Though both leaders insisted that it was a courtesy call, analysts described it as a possible sign that the DMK is thinking of joining hands with the Congress for the Assembly polls.
The Dravidian outfit’s attempt to court the Congress was evident when the party’s Rajya Sabha MP and Karunanidhi’s daughter Kanimozhi agreed to participate in a function organised by Congress on Saturday.
