Mixed response among TN political parties

Last Updated 11 May 2015, 18:52 IST

Karnataka High Court’s acquittal of Jayalalitha sparked mix response from political parties in Tamil Nadu, with DMK president Karunanidhi saying the verdict was not final.

"Today's judgment is not the end", Karunanidhi said and recalled Mahatma Gandhi's quotes that there is a court above all, which is conscience.

Karunanidhi also wondered whether the 150 knots tied by the trial court in proving the guilt of the accused was undone by Karnataka High Court.

“The prosecution was given just one day to submit its written arguments, while the defence had two months for the same. People of this country can draw their own conclusions,” DMK leader and Karunanidhi’s son M K Stalin said.

CPM leader G Ramakrishnan said the prosecution should go for  an appeal, while Tamil Nadu Congress Committee president EVKS Elangovan said, “today is black day for the judiciary.”

Staying non-committal on the judgment, state BJP president Tamilisai Soundararajan said the court has offered a big relief to Jayalalitha and she should ensure people of the state also get some relief.
