Youth, his mother sent to judicial custody in bus driver murder case

A woman and her son, who had allegedly beaten to death a 42-year-old DTC bus driver after the bus had grazed past his bike, were on Monday remanded to 14 days in judicial custody by a court here.

 Metropolitan Magistrate Sushant Changotra sent 22-year-old Vijay and his mother Roshni to judicial custody till May 25 after they were produced in the court by police.Police did not seek custodial interrogation of the two accused, residents of Mundka in west Delhi, and said they be sent to judicial custody.

Meanwhile, the court also issued a notice to the concerned authorities of a government school in Nangloi to bring Vijay’s date of birth records for ascertaining his age.

While Vijay was arrested late on Sunday night, his mother, who is accused of instigating him in the crime, was arrested on Monday morning. A case was registered with Mundka police station. According to police, the incident took place on Sunday morning when DTC bus driver Ashok Kumar was attacked by the biker following the accident in Mundka.Police said no passenger of the bus or any passer-by came forward to save Ashok Kumar.

It had not revealed the identity of the biker earlier, saying he might be a minor.Police said Vijay had beaten Kumar with his helmet and fire extinguisher continuously for a few minutes and then fled the spot.

Kumar was driving a low-floor, non-AC bus of Delhi Transport Corporation which was going from Karampura to Bahadurgarh.  

Police said the biker and his mother, a woman pillion rider, fell on the road after the mishap. 

The Delhi government has announced a compensation of Rs 5 lakh to the victim’s family and said a permanent job in the Transport Department will be given to one family member of the deceased.

Vijay was arrested late on Sunday night from his maternal uncle’s home in Haryana’s Jhajjar. His mother was arrested in Mundka village on Monday morning. She is accused of instigating him to kill the driver. 

Vijay told police that he fled home after seeing the driver fall unconscious on being beaten. Upon reaching home he learnt that the driver had succumbed to his injuries. He then fled to his uncle’s home.

The bus conductor on whose statement a case was registered told police that Vijay’s mother Roshni kept repeating that the driver must be taught a lesson for meddling with residents of Mundka village. 

The conductor claimed that when he tried to save the driver, he too was threatened of dire consequences by Roshni.
