Nuance Transcription Services (NTS), the medical transcription division of Nuance Communications, on Wednesday announced that it will invest $7.5 million in India to upgrade its facilities in Bengaluru, Coimbatore and Hyderabad. The organisation will also increase its workforce from the present 4,500 to 7,500 in the coming months.
Deccan Herald had earlier reported on this development (‘NTS to hire 3,000 staff, invest $7.5 m in its facilities’, April 28). “We are planning to visit colleges for campus recruitment. The entry-level transcriptionist can earn between Rs 20,000 and Rs 25,000 and going forward, employees can get Rs 60,000 to Rs 70,000 a month,” said Shailendra Sharma, vice president, NTS Operations, Nuance.

NTS has 50 partners across India for transcription and it uses speech recognition technology for its services. “We have been using this for a decade now and our devices work on any accent that it is not difficult for an Indian employee to understand it. India employees are able to deliver exactly the same quality of work, if not better, than their US counterparts. The speech engine itself does 90 per cent of the work. It creates the first level of draft and transcriptionists edit and validate whether the engine has got it right,” explained Sharma.

NTS has seen 35 per cent growth in the last two years, and has added one billion lines. Healthcare is the largest division of Nuance and almost $1 billion business comes from healthcare alone.
