In a joint drive, personnel attached to the Mysuru City Corporation (MCC) — along with the Police personnel — on Wednesday, evicted fast food joints that had occupied a stretch of footpath on Krishna Vilas Road and near Ramaswamy Circle, in the city.

The drive that was mainly intended at weeding out fast food points that had been posing health hazards due to the items prepared in unhygienic conditions, was also conducted to maintain cleanliness in the heart of the city.

MCC Health Officer Dr H Ramachandra, under whose leadership the drive was conducted, told Deccan Herald, the drive will continue on Thursday too from Doddagadiyaara (Clock Tower) Circle, as the mushrooming fast food joints are marring the beauty of the city.

Earlier, when the drive was launched, the vendors on Krishna Vilas Road near Lokayukta SP office, who were caught off-guard exchanged words with the officials. However, the MCC gangmen went on to confiscate some food items, forcing the vendors to vacate on their own.

Some among them, resumed their business late in the evening after shifting their mobile eateries and push carts to the corner of Narayan Shastri Road, facing Maharani’s Junior College.

The officer said, there were complaints about traffic hurdles on the roads and eve-teasing especially at night hours, with men under the influence of liquor, behaving in an unruly manner.

MCC Commissioner C G Betsurmath said, it is illegal to conduct any business activity on footpaths. Henceforth, such illegal activities will be dealt with an iron hand.
