Last Updated 19 January 2010, 18:09 IST

The Yeshwanthpur MLA alleged that farmers who parted with their land for road work had not got sufficient compensation.

She was speaking to presspersons at her residence in Bangalore on Tuesday. More than 1,000 acres of land in the limits of Yeshwanthpur Assembly constituency had been notified for road works and township.

The government had fixed Rs 88,000 per acre as compensation. However, Karandlaje said the farmers should get a minimum of Rs 1 crore per acre. “There are loopholes in the original agreement with the project promoter. Now the matter is in the Supreme Court. I hope the farmers get justice in the court at least”, she said.

Deve Gowda’s tenure

Karandlaje said it was during Deve Gowda’s rule the government entered into an agreement with the project. The saga of injustice to farmers began in his tenure. Further, she added she would continue her struggle demanding justice for farmers of her constituency.

A few farmers from Yeshwanthpur constituency felicitated the MLA on the KIADB’s decision to withdraw the proposed acquisition of 1,250 acres of land in the constituency limits.
The board gave up the acquisition process after farmers did not agree to sell their land at the price quoted by the district administration.

The MLA had also demanded more than Rs 40 lakh per acre, which was not accepted by KIADB.
