The driver of a reputed taxi company approached the Lokayukta when head constables Krishnamurthy and Prakash, demanded money from him for releasing his cab which was involved in an accident with a car last Saturday. They demanded money through Siddegowda, a manager with the taxi company. He handed over the money to Krishnamurthy, who in turn gave it to Prakash for "safe keeping".

Conducting the raid around 4:30 pm, the Lokayukta apprehended the two policemen as well as Siddegowda and slapped charges against them.

Confirming this to Deccan Herald, Basha Sab, ACP (Traffic North East), said that they were informed about the matter after the raid was conducted but did not know where the accused had been put up. "Head constables do not have any power to release a vehicle seized after an accident. So, Lokayukta's raid has perplexed me," he said.

He added that they would take action against the policemen after the Lokayukta briefed them about it.

Youth run over

A youth riding a scooter was run over by a car on 5th Cross, Vijaya Bank Layout on Monday night. The deceased, Madan (18) failed to notice a reversing car and fell down when it hit him. Another speeding car ran over him and he died on the spot, police added.

The Mico Layout traffic police said, Madan who hailed from Bihar was living an ashram with his mother after the death of his father.
