The BJP and the Narendra Modi government have planned a media blitzkrieg and mass out reach to people to both celebrate the party and government being in power for a year and to dispel the perception that the government has not delivered on its election promises and that it is anti-poor.

The BJP plans 250 rallies and 500 press conferences across the country, to be addressed by its MPs and MLAs, to inform people abou the achievements of the Modi government in the last one year.

PM Narendra Modi is expected to address a rally in Mathura a day before his government completes one year in office on May 26.

The information and broadcasting ministry has also planned a comprehensive publicity blitzkrieg of the government’s achievements and initiatives which the Prime Minister himself has claimed is much more than that achieved by the UPA in a decade.

The Press Information Bureau has rolled out a scheme from Thursday for organising ministers interviews with print and electronic media and news portals.

Senior union ministers such as Arun Jaitley are already interacting with editors and columnists for a media-government interaction which is rare in this regime.

Interestingly, information officers have been told to explore the possibility of organising Talkathons, Facebook interviews, Twitter conferences with ministers, and the like, given Modi’s penchant for optimal use of social media.

The ministers are being encouraged to write blogs and grab opportunities for live interaction with regional media through video conferencing. Special arrangements are also being made to provide information to regional media which has more penetration in villages and rural areas.

Doordarshan and All India Radio have been asked to provide audio and video clips of the success stories which are to be put up on the PIB website as well as various social media platforms, said ministry sources.

A series of meetings are taking place to finalise the publicity programmes. It will be finalised after Modi returns from his three-nation trip on May 20 night.
