A 60-year-old restaurant employee was murdered by his colleague at his work place near Kapali Theatre in Upparpet police limits on Sunday morning.

According to the police, the deceased has been identified as Nanje Gowda, a native of KR Pet in Mandya. He was working as a cleaner in Koli Mane for the past four years. His throat was slit by his colleague Ramesh, a native of Haveri, who had joined the hotel as a cleaner just three days ago. Ramesh is absconding.

On Sunday around 7 am, Gowda was found dead by Ravi another employee, who informed the hotel owner Srinivas and the police. Ravi had gone for a bath while an argument broke out between Gowda and Ramesh. They involved in physical fight and Ramesh took a knife and slit Gowda’s throat before fleeing the spot, said the police.

A police officer said, “Ravi noticed Gowda lying in a pool of blood. He looked for Ramesh, who was not to be seen. The police who arrived at the spot shifted the body for post-mortem. Gowda, who is a senior in the hotel was seen directing other employees and this might have triggered the fight between them. The owner has not taken any personal details of the accused before appointing him to work.” A case has been registered in Upparpet police station and investigation is being carried out.
