Decomposed body found, face smashed to conceal identity

Last Updated 22 May 2015, 02:13 IST

An unidentified man’s body was found in a forested area in south Delhi’s Sangam Vihar on Wednesday evening.

The victim’s face had been crushed to conceal his identity. The body appears to have been dumped at the spot for a few days when it was recovered around 5 pm on Wednesday.

The body has been preserved at a mortuary with the hope that someone would identify it. The recovery was made in the shooting range area in Sangam Vihar.

A police officer said some children playing in the woods were drawn to the decaying body due to the strong stench emanating from it. Upon discovering the body, they rushed to inform elders.

The first person they came across was one Haribabu to whom they narrated the incident.

Haribabu then called the police control room number and a police team was sent to the spot.

There was little at the spot apart from the body that could provide  any clue. The victim’s face was found crushed with some heavy objects in a bid to conceal his identity.

He was found fully clothed, but a search of his person did not help police get any identity proof.

Police suspect that the victim was killed elsewhere before being dumped at this spot.

No witness

Police have failed to find any eyewitness so far. Police stations in the city have been informed and told to revert if any complaint of a missing person matching the description of the deceased is received.
