Three members of a heavily armed gang of carjackers have been nabbed in outer Delhi’s Alipur with a Chinese hand grenade, two 9MM pistols, one 7.65 MM pistol, three country-made pistols of .315 bore and 20 cartridges.

Rohit, Satender and Shaqeel are involved in several cases of murder, attempt to murder and robbery. A probe has revealed that Rohit, 26, was the gang leader.

In 2008, he had killed a man named Munna Singh in outer Delhi’s Prashant Vihar and was sentenced to life imprisonment by a trial court. Rohit was released from Tihar Jail on a parole of one month in January.

He, however, jumped parole and contacted his former accomplice.

In April, his gang murdered the eyewitness of the Prashant Vihar case, who had deposed against him before the trial court. The body was dumped near Rai in Sonipat.
There were several incidents of carjacking in Alipur in the last two-three months due to which a police team was assigned to develop information.

On Monday, the team received information about a gang planning a carjacking.
“A Maruti SX4 was signalled to stop at a picket and was forced to stop on Monday afternoon,” said Vikramjit Singh, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Outer).

On noticing heavy police presence, the three men got down from the car and tried to flee. They were overpowered after a brief chase. The arms, ammunition and the grenade were recovered from the car.
