Cop catches thief stealing mobile, gets attacked by his accomplices

A head constable was assaulted by a group of men after he caught one of them stealing his mobile phone while travelling in a bus in north Delhi on Tuesday.

The four men pelted stones on the constable and his friend. The thief even tried to attack him with a knife.

The policeman and his friend suffered minor injuries in the attack and were discharged after first aid.

The assailants, who are yet to be identified, fled after the attack.
Head constable Sachin had managed to snatch back his Samsung mobile phone.
A native of Jhajjar in Haryana, Sachin works with Delhi Police.

He had boarded a DTC cluster bus at Netaji Subhash Place at 9.25 am on Tuesday and was headed to Kingsway Camp.

As he was preparing to get off at a bus stop in Model Town, he felt his mobile phone missing from his trouser pocket.

“I turned around immediately and found a 25-year-old youth switching off my mobile phone and keeping it in his pocket. I snatched my phone from him and he pulled out a knife and tried to attack me in a bid to take the phone back,” Sachin said.

The scuffle drew the attention of Sachin’s friend Deepak who was also in the bus.
But as soon as Deepak jumped to Sachin’s aid, three other men in the bus rushed to the thief’s rescue.

A police officer said this is a modus operandi of some mobile thieves in the city.
The four men then thrashed Sachin and Deepak before jumping off the bus.
Seeing them escape, the driver stopped the bus. The policeman then chased the thieves.

But they threw stones and bricks at him and fled towards Azadpur.
Police were informed after which Sachin and Deepak were taken to a hospital and administered first aid.

A case was registered with Model Town police station.
Police said they are questioning certain criminal elements in the area to identify the suspects.
