Jaya seeks PM's help to bring back body of fisherman

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalitha on Sunday urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to take necessary measures to airlift the body of a fisherman from the state who was shot dead by unidentified people while fishing in the high seas off Saudi Arabia coast on May 29.

Mathi Valan (45) was shot dead while fishing along with seven other fishermen. They had reportedly left the fishing base of Jubail, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, on May 29 in the morning and were fishing in a vessel owned by a man from Saudi Arabia. The deceased fishermen were working on contract basis.

Jayalalitha asked Modi to direct the Indian Embassy at Riyadh to take urgent steps to arrange for the transportation of the body to Tamil Nadu at the earliest. Jayalalitha also announced a solatium of Rs 5 lakh to his family.
