History-sheeter hacked to death

A 35-year-old history-sheeter was hacked to death in broad daylight in Mallathalli, Jnanabharathi, on Friday afternoon. The deceased has been identified as T C Raja, who had around 12 criminal cases against him.

According to the police, Raja was travelling by an autorickshaw to a private clinic for treatment. A gang of five bike-borne men followed him, intercepted the autorickshaw, pulled Raja out, and attacked him with lethal weapons, before fleeing the spot.

Raja collapsed with serious injuries and died on the spot. Auto driver Suresh, who tried to protect Raja, was injured in the attack and shifted to a private hospital. The public, who witnessed the incident, informed the police, who rushed to the spot and shifted the body for post-mortem, said the police.

A senior police officer said Raja had around 12 attempt-to- murder and dacoity cases against him. He was suffering from serious ailments and did not involve himself in any illegal activities for the past four years. He was admitted to hospital for a long time and was discharged a month ago.

“The assailants might have murdered him over rivalry. We are gathering information about the attack and also trying to trace the registration number of the vehicle. He was associated with a few notorious rowdies and they are also being questioned to gather clues about the assailants,” the police officer said.

Jnanabharathi police have registered a case.
