Taking the green route

Budding environmentalists
Last Updated 08 June 2015, 15:21 IST

As a part of its sesquicentennial year celebrations, Bishop Cotton Boys’ School in association with the United Nation Environment Program observed the World Environment Day recently.

The highlight of the event was the cyclathon which drew in nearly 900 students, faculty and celebrities like film star Malashree and Murli Vijay. Lending his support was environmentalist Suresh Heblikar, who arrived with his son, Akshay Heblikar, to spread awareness about the environment. Addressing the student body, he spoke about environmental degradation over the years and went on to highlight that little things done by individuals do make a difference.

Following this, was the screening of a documentary by Eco Watch, which was directed by Suresh himself. Post this, an array of activities for students of all age groups was conducted.

These included hand printing, poster making, collage making, a quiz, a poetry writing and a photography contest. With an encouraging response from the students, it seems likely that change in the world is imminent.
