A Delhi Police constable and a Delhi Home Guard were thrashed when they chased and forced three men on a motorcycle to stop in central Delhi’s Ranjit Nagar in the wee hours of Sunday.

The accused, who have been arrested, were in an inebriated condition and riding without helmets, police said.

The incident occurred when constable Om Prakash was on night duty with Delhi Home Guard Ranveer.

“They were on patrol on a motorcycle near Patel Nagar-Narayana Road,” said a police officer.
At 3 am, Om Prakash and Ranveer noticed three men riding a motorcycle on the wrong side of the road.

They were allegedly speeding and performing dangerous stunts on the motorcycle without wearing any helmet.

Om Prakash signalled them to stop, but they sped and tried to flee.
“Om Prakash and Ranveer then chased the motorcycle and forced them to stop outside Metro Hospital. The men on the motorcycle were found to be drunk,” the officer added.

It is alleged that as Om Prakash went to question them, the men riding pillion abused and pushed him.

Soon, Om Prakash was thrashed and his uniform was torn by them.
“The accused claimed that they rule the area and the constable would not be allowed to leave alive,” the officer said.

During the melee, Ranveer went towards the gate of the hospital and made a PCR call.
Head constable Surender and constable Dinesh of a PCR van responded to the call and helped overpower the accused.

They were identified as Subhash Yadav, Pawan Lal and Ajay Singh, residents of Ranjit Nagar.
Subhash was driving the motorcycle, but was not carrying his driving licence or vehicle documents.

On the basis of Om Prakash’s statement, a case under Indian Penal Code and Motor Vehicles Act has been filed with Ranjit Nagar police station.

“The medical examination of the accused confirmed that they were under the influence of alcohol,” the officer added.
Om Prakash is also posted with Ranjit Nagar police station.
