Anticipating announcement of BBMP election anytime, the JD(S) has decided to get its act together and start preparing for the polls.

JD(S) president H D Kumaraswamy convened a meeting of senior party leaders, including Chamarajpet MLA Zameer Ahmed Khan, Mahalakshmi Layout MLA Gopalaiah, party working president Narayan Gowda, and City president Ratan Lal on Thursday.

It was decided that the preparations for the election should begin immediately. While a manifesto would be released for the overall development of the City, the party would also come out with a handbook that would focus on ward-wise development. The handbook would be distributed door to door, he added. JD(S) supremo H D Deve Gowda would hold interactions with representatives/leaders of all the Legislative Assembly constituencies in the City to collect their opinion from Friday to Monday. The meeting would start at 12 noon on Friday.

Taking up the issue of the Yellalinga murder case, Kumaraswamy tweeted questioning the government’s inaction. Demanding that the government hand over the case to the CID, and arrest all the accused immediately, Kumaraswamy also wanted to know, who the government was protecting.

Yellalinga, a 17-year-old student studying in Koppal was allegedly murdered by the son of a former Zilla Panchayat member, Hanumesh Naik, who is said to be related to Minor Irrigation Minister Shivaraj Tangadagi. The murder took place on January 10 and arrests were made sometime in May. Naik’s son Mahantesh Naik and five others have been arrested.
