The Fifth Additional District and Sessions Court on Thursday awarded life imprisonment to eight persons convicted for murder in a 13-year old case.
Nagaraju, Maridimma, Basavaraju, Raju, Gangaraju, Basavaraju, Ramakrishna and Adganahalli - all Congress workers - had murdered a man by name Ramesh on October
31, 2002 over political rivalry. The incident had occurred during the village festival. The court has also directed payment of a compensation of Rs one lakh to the family of the deceased.
Of the convicted, Gangaraju was elected as a member to Mallanakuppte Gate panchayat in the recently held elections.
