Irregularities in rural job scheme sparks protest

The protesters complained that the workers who were engaged in removing the silt from the village lake are not paid for their work.

Lawyer Natraj and Jayappa who led the protest alleged that a report stating silt removal work had been undertaken at the cost of Rs 13lakh, had been submitted and the funds that was released by the government. But this has been misappropriated in the names of workers, but the actual workers are not paid. They also alleged that money has been drawn by forgery.

The agitators demanded immediate action against the officers involved in the misappropriation. The protest was withdrawn after promise by the Taluk Panchayat Executive Officer Sanjappa, to take action in a week after conducting a probe into the irregularities.

Narayanappa, Ganesh, Gangappa, Venkatesh and others took part in the protest.
