76-yr-old fails Class X exam 46 times

A 76-year-old Rajasthan man apparently created world record by flunking in Class X exam for 46 consecutive years, which has also doomed him to be a bachelor for life.

Shiv Charan Yadav from Alwar district failed to clear the exams this year as well, following which locals now plan to hire private tutors to help him pass at least next year.  “I have been appearing in Rajasthan Board Class 10 exams for 46 years and am yet to clear it,” Shiv Charan, resident of Khohri village in Alwar district, said.

“I faced the humiliation of failing in class 10 for several years during my childhood,” he added. “Later, I promised not to get married until I clear class 10.”

Though his dreams of marriage are all but over, he is happy that he at least created a record of sorts.

Locals said Shiv Charan resides in a Hanuman temple since none of his family lives in the village. Two of his sisters, meritorious and married into reputed families, never turned up to meet him.

“Till a few years ago, he was living with a childhood friend,” said Vir Singh Bhati of Behror village.

“But he was asked to leave since he became a burden on the family. He was rendered jobless. Ever since, he lives in the local Hanuman temple,” he added.
Locals visiting the temple attend to Shiv Charan’s needs and are even motivating him to clear class 10 exams. Several of them have decided to even hire a local tutor to help the septuagenarian.

“He is too old,” Singh said. “We were hopeful that he would clear the exams this year, but he failed. So we decided to hire a tutor for him.”
Villagers are determined to fulfil Shiv Charan’s wish before he breathes his last. “This will be a great achievement for him,” Singh said.
